Clevedon’s Curzon cinema will sparkle, fizz and pop when it offers a spectacular trip to Montmartre of 1900s re-creating a Parisian nightclub on Saturday 9th September. Marking this year’s Heritage Open Days the audience, encouraged to dress up, will be plunged into a Bohemian world of colourful characters that inhabit the seedy underworld of Baz Luhrmann’s visual extravaganza. Expect cancan dancers, magicians, live music, wicked cocktails and an absinthe bar and that’s before the film begins.
Following extraordinary interest when the cinema’s extravaganza was outlined on Facebook, Luke Doran, General Manager, said: ‘The film has a real, cult following and we wanted to tap into that fandom. Its continuing popularity in 2017 was evident when the incredible Secret Cinema event in London sold out for 5 months. We thought it would be fabulous to put on an immersive event that will feel more like a party, turning the Curzon upside down and inside out, and above all celebrating the possibilities of our remarkable venue.’
This immersive experience of turn of the century Paris will frame a screening of Moulin Rouge starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor, described by Empire as ‘delightfully quirky, irresistibly intoxicating’
Doors open for magic, can-can and cocktails at 6.30pm and following the film dancing, music and mischief well into the night as the absinthe continues to trickle. Cos we can cancan, yes we can cancan....
